Study in Korea from Kyrgyzstan

The visa rules, the documents, and what's actually different for Kyrgyzstani applicants — in one place, in your language.

THE SAME FOR EVERYONE

The process itself doesn't change by nationality.

Two visa types

D-2 if you've already been admitted to a degree programme, D-4 if you're starting with Korean-language study first.

A fixed four-stage process

University admission, enrollment, your visa application at the Korean embassy or consulate in your own country, then registering with immigration within 90 days of arrival.

HiKorea is the official source

Requirements can change — always confirm the current document list and any nationality-specific rules at HiKorea (☎ 1345) before you apply.

SPECIFIC TO YOUR COUNTRY

What's different if you're applying from Kyrgyzstan

Visa applications generally must be filed in Kyrgyzstan itself

Korea's Ministry of Justice designates Kyrgyzstan as one of the countries whose nationals must, in principle, apply for a Korean visa only at a mission in their own home country — not at a Korean embassy or consulate elsewhere. The embassy is at 35 Akhunbaev St., Bishkek.

Check the TB test requirement

The Korean Embassy in Kyrgyzstan has designated TB-diagnosis hospitals in Osh specifically for long-stay (91+ day) visa applicants in southern Kyrgyzstan, which includes the D-2 study visa. Confirm the current designated-clinic list and requirement at HiKorea before you apply.

A study visa (D-2/D-4) is not the same as a work visa (E-9)

Kyrgyzstan is one of the countries that sends workers to Korea under the EPS labor programme (E-9 visa) — a completely separate track from student visas. If you're searching for "Korea visa from Kyrgyzstan," make sure what you find is actually about D-2/D-4 study visas, not E-9 work visas.

Diplomas need an apostille, not full legalization

Kyrgyzstan has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 2011, so a diploma or transcript only needs a single apostille stamp rather than full consular legalization. Confirm with your target university that an apostille alone is accepted for your documents.

How much money you need to show

The Ministry of Justice sets no fixed amount: you must show one year of tuition plus living costs (six months for a D-4 language course), and your university states the figure in its admission guide. A large deposit made right before applying can be questioned as borrowed money, so keep the balance settled in your account.

No verified student association found — yet

We couldn't confirm an active, verifiable Kyrgyzstani student association operating specifically in Korea. If you know of one, let us know and we'll add it here. In the meantime, your university's international student office is usually the fastest way to connect with other Kyrgyzstani students on campus.

This information is for reference only and rules change. Always confirm with HiKorea (☎ 1345) or your university's international office before you submit.
